Here we go!

It has been such an event filled week and it is just getting started!  Payton had his braces put on Friday and seems to be adjusting ok.  He was in some pain the first day but is now handling it like a trooper.  The past several days have been spent washing, shaving and preparing the goats for the fair.  It seems odd that you make them pretty just to be slaughtered but I guesss that is what everyone has to do. 

To be honest, I'm a little worried about fair this year.  Not so much the 4H competition part, that is what it is.  I'm more concerned with watching the kids (mine and others) during the time we are there.  You learn a lot about them and it is not always good.  I hope my kids always make good choices but the reality is I know they are human and won't.  I pray that the bad choices are not too bad and are not things that can't be overcome.  Their dad and I will always be there to help them through every part of their life and I hope they realize this. 

I know how few teenagers talk with their parents and I honestly don't want my kids to be in that group.  They need to know that regardless of any choice they make, we love them unconditionally and want them to be able to talk with us.  So for now, I guess I should feel fortunate that I am in a position where I can observe what is going on in their lives.  I have to remind myself of this from time to time.

As we finish up the basketball season, both kids have gained confidence and found successes.  Win or loose, it is so great to see them enjoy themselves and progress. Payton plays his last game on Monday and Kennedy has 2 this week, one Thursday and one Friday. Tim has coached both of their teams and done a great job! 

On Friday, Payton will have his braces put on and it seems that this is the final step in him going from a little boy to a young man.  I honestly don't know where the time went. 

The next big project for the family will be getting the goats ready for the fair.  Weigh in is March 30th, market class competition will be Thursday, March 31st, Friday, April 1st will be the showmanship competition and the auction will be Saturday April 2nd.  I hope both kids do well but I'm most proud of the fact that they both handle themselves with poise and grace.

Week of 3/14/11

It is hard to believe that 11 years ago today, I gave birth to Payton, the "baby" of the family.  As we
approach the "pre teen" years I have to laugh at all the times he told me he would never get a teenage attitude.  Of course, it is unavoidable and at times peeks out to say hi to his dad and I. 

I think he has had a pretty good birthday.  He enjoyed his birthday party on Sat and today played his second to last basketball game of the season.  It was close, and he hit the game winning shot in overtime!  I'm not sure who was more proud - him or his dad/coach. 

The rest of the week is set to be pretty calm, Kennedy has basketball on Tue and Thursday and we continue to prepare the goats for fair.  Both goats need to gain more weight so it's time to free feed for a while. 

I think we are all looking forward to Saturday and having time to sleep in.

Week of 3/7/11

We have an exciting week ahead of us.  Payton will play his first full court basketball game on Monday (3/7) at 4:00 pm at the rec center.  We expect that the pace of the game will be a little slower considering the 5th and 6th grade boys teams are used to playing half court.  Kennedy has games on 3/8 and 3/10 at 4:00.  Her team will not start full court play until the end of the month.  It is nice that the rec center has organized a girls league and we are very appreciative of that. 

The local fair is less than 1 month away and both kids are working with their goats to get them ready.  This week we will be shaving them to see if they need any additional finishing.  We will also be at the fair grounds on Tue the 8th for pen set up.  We hope that everyone can join us. 

Tim will be traveling to central California for a California Cotton Council meeting on Wed and Thur.  I'm so proud of all that he does; he is a great husband and dad! 

On top of all that, the baby of the family (Payton) will be turning 11 on March 14th and we are planning for his party on Sat March 12th.  Not a lot of time to rest, but it is all worth it in the end!

As the weather gets warmer and days grow longer, our lives seem to get more and more crazy.  This blog is an attempt to keep family and friends updated on the coming and goings of the Cox family.  The goal is to post weekly activities for those interested and updates on our lives so that those live near and far can stay involved with our lives.  Check back in a couple of days for further updates. We hope you enjoy it!
